Michael Jackson Covers

Posted Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:35pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Michael Jackson has been in the news again lately -- in a big way. This week saw American Idol pay homage to MJ with "Michael Jackson" week, and Jackson himself announced a 27-night appearance at London's 20,000-capacity O2 Arena this summer. Tickets for the shows have been in high demand. The event is rumored to be Michael's final curtain call as it will be billed the "This Is It" tour, but some think it could be a full-fledged comeback.

On one hand there's no denying that Michael Jackson has seriously impacted his celebrity with child molestation charges and bizarre behavior. But on the other hand, there's no denying his immense impact on the popular culture and his deep musical talent. The King of Pop still holds the coveted bragging rights for creating the biggest selling album of all time with 1982's Thriller.

The music of Michael Jackson has inspired a tremendous number of musicians over the years and this playlist looks at a variety of approaches some have taken in covering his work. Some of these remakes stay true to the original recording, some are reworks that pay homage, while others are satirical pokes at MJ's troubles.
