Top 10 Superman Songs

Posted Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:45pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Since his creation in 1932 by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman has become one of America's most well-known cultural icons. The Man of Steel is well known for his he-man good looks and super powers. These include being "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound".

My son, like millions of other young boys, loves Superman, and he spends much of his free time pretending to fight crime in an ad hoc Superman cape.

The fascination children have with Superman has helped drive a huge industry for all things related to the man of Metropolis. Some of the products that the Superman character has helped sell over the decades includes comic books, films, television series, toys, costumes, T-shirts, toothbrushes, underwear, etcetera, ad nauseam... But let us not forget the musicians who have cashed in on the Superman mystique.

This playlist includes 10 songs that I feel are the very best to be inspired by the Man of Steel.

Top 10 Superman Songs

   1. (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman - The Kinks

   2. Superman - R.E.M.

   3. The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts - Sufjan Stevens

   4. Waitin' For A Superman - The Flaming Lips

   5. Sunshine Superman - Donovan

   6. Superman Lover - Johnny "Guitar" Watson

   7. Silvergun Superman - Stone Temple Pilots

   8. Superman - Bush

   9. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down

   10. Superman Inside - Eric Clapton

i like he kryptonite song by 3 doors down. you guys should make a list called:
Top 10 Singers of Bands That Can Rock Out Live.
the top 5 would be:
1.Amy Lee (Evanescence)
2.Jared Leto (30 Seconds To Mars)
3.Stephen Christian (Anberlin)
4.Gerad Way (My Chemical Romance)
5.Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace)

Amy Lee is number 1 because she has an amazing vocal range in the studio and live onstage. she doesnt need that vocal cleanup like other singers do.

2. DUDE -
Wow...Can't believe that you missed "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" by Spin Doctors...

3. N R -
what about "Superman" by Five for Fighting?

4. Yahoo! Music User -
I was gonna scream if I saw another one of these lists without Sufjan's song on there. Thank you for recognizing that it exists and is amazing.

Your list always suck big time...how did you get this job in the first place? As someone else mentioned, Five For Fighting's Superman was an awesome song and a very BIG HIT and so was Can You Read My Mind hit song sung by Maureen McGovern/Margot Kidder composed by John Williams??? The orchestral version with narration by Margot Kidder was actually played in the awesome Superman movie when Lois Lane and Mr. S were flying for the first time together in the sky...!How can you miss those 2 songs??? A Huuuge Generation Gap here maybe or you just suck in making Top 10 lists? Go get another job somewhere else where we don't see your stupid lists for the world to see.

Actually this is a very good list for me.

7. Gerry -
There's also "Supermans' Big Sister" by Ian Dury & The Blockheads, though the first part of the title was blacked out on the sleeve, much the same way that the Superman 'S' on the egg logo for Leon Russells' Shelter label was eventually blacked out due to legalities.

8. Verpiss Dich -
What about Land Of Confusion by Disturbed, listen to it.

9. Ty -
Superman by Goldfinger?
