Eagles Covers

Posted Thu Mar 26, 2009 3:51pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

There can be no argument that the Eagles are a hugely influential band. Their mix of country and rock, combined with sublime harmonies and incredibly catchy melodies have proven to be an unbeatable formula for success and staying power.

The Eagles 1976 release Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) is one of the biggest selling albums in history with 42 million copies sold worldwide since its release in 1976. Sales numbers like that are a testament to how deep the music of the Eagles is ingrained in the fabric of popular culture.

The Eagles' simple, but perfectly executed songs are excellent fodder for the beginner. It would not be a stretch to say that most new songwriters practiced Eagles songs as they learned to play guitar and sing harmony.

For this playlist I have selected 10 classic Eagles songs as performed by a wide variety of musicians.

   1. Peaceful Easy Feeling - Little Texas

   2. Desperado - Johnny Cash

   3. Take It To The Limit - Etta James

   4. Hotel California - A3

   5. Heartache Tonight - Northern Lights

   6. Seven Bridges Road - The Caribbean Cowboys

   7. Lyin' Eyes - Vance Gilbert

   8. Already Gone - Wilson Phillips

   9. Best Of My Love - Yvonne Elliman

   10. Take It Easy - Blues Tribute to the Eagles

"Desperado" has also been covered by Sun City Girls, Judy Collins, Clint Black, and Linda Ronstadt (and others). I wish I had written the song!

Many people think it is "fashionable" to hate The Eagles....I am not one of them.

Driving down the road listening to the Eagles back then! Then as the years have passed to where after the Eagles were the ONLY music group we wanted to hear; but, now when an Eagles song plays on the radio (any one of them)it's like "turn it up - it's The Eagles!!") They will never go out of style, they will never be forgotten and America will never get tired of hearing them!

Gerald Alston does a nice smooth jazz/R&B version of "I Can't Tell You Why," and Vince Gill does a great job with it too. And of course, you have to check out the Gipsy Kings' take on "Hotel California."

The Eagles were great in the seventies the soundtrack to my youth.Sadly they are not the same without Don Felder Long Road Out Of Eden
was dull.Yet it still went multiplatinum.

There is a whole album released of country singers doing Eagles songs. Included are "I Can't Tell You Why" by Vince Gill, "The Sad Cafe" by Lorrie Morgan and the one that started it all, "Take It Easy" by Travis Tritt.
