Superior Genius Playlist: Vol. 1

Posted Wed May 27, 2009 5:41pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Today I noticed that Rhapsody has finally added one of my favorite Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums, Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. This beautiful piece of perfection is a double album released in 2004, and was the band's 13th studio release. Rhapsody's addition of this record filled a large gap in their library for me. Combine this with the newly added Hüsker Dü catalog and I'm one seriously happy camper.

One of my favorite tracks from Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus is "There She Goes, My Beautiful World". Since I already have this song in my iTunes library I decided to build an iTunes Genius playlist from it. If you're not familiar, iTunes Genius is an automated playlist creator. You just pick a song from your library, click the Genius button, and walla, you've got yourself a playlist. I must admit, the playlists Genius has created for me have all been of superior quality.

Instead of continuing to keep these playlists to myself I've decided to start sharing them here.

With you.

I hope you love them as much as I do.

Robert, what an excellent list! You know, your blog is the best that Y! Music has to offer. I do not like every single list, but there are only a few that don't appeal to me. Give yourself a hefty raise, sir!!!

Thanks guys, I can always count on you to let me know what's good and what's not so good... I try to spread it around a bit, but this music is a glimpse into what I actually listen to. If you dig this we can hang..

Yay, Robert is responding to his blog again! (And I know it's creepy that I'm replying within minutes of your post Robert, but I assure you, I am not stalking waiting for replies...I swear!).

I think most of us readers of this blog enjoy your musical tastes...So yeah, we can hang...

"O Superman" -- Laurie Anderson which off-sets anything by Velvet Underground/Lou Reed that +Yahoo Music=Great/Influential/Genius/...other crappy label you can put in front of this crappy band.

Excellent choices, Robert! Nice to see "T.V. Eye" and "Visions of Johanna" make it, along with the rest of the cool stuff. Keep 'em coming!
