Radish Portable Gold: Vol. 3

Posted Thu May 28, 2009 5:50pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

I enjoyed listening to my iTunes Genius playlist yesterday so much that I decided to do another one based solely on music I love. But this time, instead of letting iTunes generate the tracks, I thought I would resurrect my Radish Portable Gold series. These are playlists of songs from my collection that I have labelled as 5-stars. In some cases they're classic tracks that have wide appeal, sometimes they're lesser-known songs worshiped by critics, and sometimes they're songs that completely go against the grain.

Basically, these are all songs that have risen to the top for me and I will defend them to the death.

What's in your playlist?

Radish Portable Gold: Vol. 3

   1. New Killer Star - David Bowie

   2. Baby's On Fire - Brian Eno

   3. Miss You - The Rolling Stones

   4. Smokestack Lightnin' - Howlin' Wolf

   5. Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker

   6. Right Place Wrong Time - Dr. John

   7. Drop Me Down - Tres Chicas

   8. Do It Again - Steely Dan

   9. Spirits In The Material World - The Police

   11. Gravity Rides Everything - Modest Mouse

   12. Blood Machine - Chad Vangaalen

Yes, I chose my list to juxtapose yours Robert. It's a bit more unconventional, but I find that not all people enjoy Steely Dan (such a shame!) and my more "modern" list has good appeal.

But again, Robert, your portable gold series is worth a cult following...Thanks for reviving it.

Robert, another good list. I really like the variety. Including Brian Eno and Howlin' Wolf in the same list is a great touch. Then, you also chose T. Rex and John Lee Hooker. Sounds like some great road music to me!!
D33PPURPLE, your list is mighty fine also: Sebadoh, Fugazi, Silversun Pickups, Death, and Gang of Four are all favorites of mine. Well, actually, there is not a single bad tune in the bunch.

Hey Radish!...More and more,Yahoo Music is turning into "Musictainment Tonight"....There is a growing focus on everything but the music itself (example:Musicboob)....
These lists inspire me to listen to some songs that I may have neglected...They also enlighten me to seek out undiscovered gems...I guess I'm trying to say...Thank You.....

5. Yahoo! Music User -
Great lists guys. Eclectic lits are a sign of highly developed tastes.

And Dude, Yahoo is one of the most visited web destinations on the Internet, so it's not a surprise that they reflect the popular culture. But I'm glad they have lots of room for the good stuff too.

And your welcome... :-)
