Michael Jackson's Number One Hits

Posted Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:02pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

I was on the road to a meeting late this afternoon when I heard on the radio that Michael Jackson had been rushed to the hospital. When I left the meeting the news had turned to "Michael Jackson, Dead at 50". Like most, I was shocked because he was so young, but also because he is such a legend in popular music. There will certainly be many articles written this week about MJ, some will be sterile and concise, some with be lengthy career recaps, and some will be tasteless and cruel. I have always had conflicted views on the man, but the truth is I did not know him. The only thing I can say about Michael Jackson with confidence is that he was a true musical genius and a legendary performer. We watched him grow up before our eyes and we bought more of his albums than any other artist in history. Michael's 1982 album Thriller still holds the distinct honor of being the biggest selling album of all time with well over 100 million units sold worldwide. Something tells me that number will grow further and won't be surpassed anytime soon.

For this playlist I have put in chronological order every solo Michael Jackson song that reached the #1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. 12 songs in all, and there are many more to find if you consider his duet and group chart-toppers.

Rest in peace Michael, and thanks for the music, it will live longer than any of us.

Michael,
In your life you may have felt alone and have had to face extreme scrutiny, but I hope you look upon the world from heaven and hear all the voices and cries of millions, if not billions, of people who love you and mourn for the loss of you, our King of Pop for all time. Your music and your voice will live on in our hearts forever and we will never forget your talented gifts you shared with us. I've been playing You Are Not Alone over and over and can't believe you are gone. We will miss you.

I extend my deepest condolensces and sympathies to Michael's family and all the fans who are grieving at this terrible loss. I'm heartbroken.

He rocked us on Earth...and one day, he will rock us all in heaven!

I saw you on the Victory Tour, when I skipped Highschool while my parents were on vacation. I took a bus to Canada at age 16 to rock with you and Janet! The greatest day of my life.

.....PS-He's not really dead, he just went home. :)

I always amazed for all Jacko's work in music.. Unique, creative, artistic and so great. I can enjoyed it all the time. His songs always had a message not just an ordinary one. Beside the Bible, my collection about his cassettes,CDs, mags, videos, they're my treasures. May God supports n cares of his families n his loved ones. Jacko....,may u rest in peace in heaven, thank you for your love n dedicated in music. Your hardworking in music will never be useless, in other side will always inspired someone who's listening on it and will be eternal than a human being itself.....

I will never be ashamed of my love of The Jackson Five (my favorite Michael Jackson music), and I admit a grudging respect for THRILLER, which remains one of the most overdone, over-rated albums of all time in my book. But I'd be a fool to deny that Michael Jackson was one incredibly talented man. I just wish he was able to use his talent to overcome the bizzarities that overshadowed his post-THRILER life, and most likely had a big hand in ending it. Sad beyond sad.

I LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON, PLAIN AND SIMPLE THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO EXPLAIN IT. NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS ABOUT THE TIME HE SPENT ON EARTH WITH US, HE WAS TRULY THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I SAW MICHAEL 5 YEARS IN A ROW WHEN HE WAS APART OF THE JACKSON 5. IT'S A MEMORY THAT CAN NEVER BE ERASED. GOD BLESS YOU MICHAEL AND YOUR FAMILY. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER.

Michael was a great genius that was blessed by God with so many talents. He was smart, intelligent and such a troubled soul at the same time. Let's all be aware of the pressures that we put on our child artists and realize the profound affect it can have on them. My prayers are with the Jackson family, whom I'm sure are suffering in a way that is inconcievable. R.I.P. Michael

I can`t believe!

This is sad and it is a process to take away a life of creative prophetic wonder from a society that was ungrateful enough to allow him to be taken apart by the hateful and greedy which had to be deeply rooted among the racial shadows. A society that no longer deserved his presence in this shrinking world. I hope he has risen to a culture worthy of his giving.
