Michael Jackson's Number One Hits

Posted Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:02pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

I was on the road to a meeting late this afternoon when I heard on the radio that Michael Jackson had been rushed to the hospital. When I left the meeting the news had turned to "Michael Jackson, Dead at 50". Like most, I was shocked because he was so young, but also because he is such a legend in popular music. There will certainly be many articles written this week about MJ, some will be sterile and concise, some with be lengthy career recaps, and some will be tasteless and cruel. I have always had conflicted views on the man, but the truth is I did not know him. The only thing I can say about Michael Jackson with confidence is that he was a true musical genius and a legendary performer. We watched him grow up before our eyes and we bought more of his albums than any other artist in history. Michael's 1982 album Thriller still holds the distinct honor of being the biggest selling album of all time with well over 100 million units sold worldwide. Something tells me that number will grow further and won't be surpassed anytime soon.

For this playlist I have put in chronological order every solo Michael Jackson song that reached the #1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. 12 songs in all, and there are many more to find if you consider his duet and group chart-toppers.

Rest in peace Michael, and thanks for the music, it will live longer than any of us.

I give my condolences to his family. I know I dont know all about him because im still young but i got turned on to old school music as a young child and i will never forget when i first heard a song by him. It was Thriller and i reall enjoyed it. At my school, Berkner every year they have a Halloween Hoops, on Halloween and we dance to Thriller each time. I got a chance to dance and we really impressed the crowd. I wish i could have met Micheal, but i will always listen to his music and remember to pay tribute every time i hear his songs by entertaining myself as well as he has entertained me and millions more......... R.I.P. Micheal Jackson A.K.A. King Of Pop. Foreve and always. Gone but never forgotten.....

Michael Jackson is someone who cant be replaced, hes an inspiration to many and will truly be missed. Im only 18 but i grew up listening to him. And at times i tried to dance like him in my mirror. When i heard that he passed i was in total shock.
I still am. He will and forever be the KING OF POP!!! He'll forever live on in our hearts.. My favorite quote by him would be.. " If You Enter This World Knowing You Are Loved And Leave This World Knowing The Same, Then Everything That Happens In Between Can Be Dealt With ". - Michael Jackson...

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Micheal, I am trully sorry that you was given to a father that was so abusive you had to hide the true you. I am happy that you loved us enough to share all the talent that was trully a gift from God. I will miss you more than anyone because I was one that grew with you and loved you from within. Now you have a Father that trully loves unconditionally! Don"t worry I am 53 and I have no need to grow up. True love is hard to find. I never got the chance to be in your present but I will love you infinity!

many PPl such as Justin Timberlake and Usher gave great performances from Michaels Dancing. Allot of remix songs these days have 16 string beats from his songs. Some Ppl really never acknowledged him as the music I-con he was and still is! Now that he's gone Everyone realized how much He changed the world and made history! He May have Been a man with some Mistakes, But He made since the age of 11 He Sang with all his heart and did his best to heal the world. He will truly be Missed But His Music will Still be Alive and Playing Everywhere In the world. Now that everyone knows the kind caring Man He was...Hopefully may All those Allegations Be Put Behind And keep his Music alive on the airwaves.
He May Often Be Imitated but never Duplicated!

R.I.P Mike. Thanks for all the Music you left for us!
