Top 10 Bicycle Songs

Posted Fri Jul 24, 2009 7:12pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

I'm not sure what it is about the Tour De France that sucks me in, but I love to watch it. You wouldn't think that watching a bicycle race on television could be compelling, but it is. As we come into the final stages of this year's Tour De France seeing a 37-year old Lance Armstrong with a shot at standing on the podium is inspiring. But for me it's more than just Lance and his amazing story. I love the strategy and seeing the French countryside dotted with crazy fans. As the race winds down this year I thought I would put together a list of bicycle songs that I feel are the very best. Some of them are obvious picks, others not so much, but they're all excellent in their own way.

What are your favorite bike-inspired songs?

Top 10 Bicycle Songs

   1. Bicycle Race - Queen

   2. Apology Song - The Decemberists

   3. Tour De France - Kraftwerk

   5. Bicycle Bicycle, You Are My Bicycle - Be Your Own Pet

   6. Bicycle Built For Two - John Fahey

   7. Bicycle Spaniard - Cracker

Impeccable list Robert, especially with Deerhoof and Shonen Knife

Like D33PPURPLE said, a great list, especially with the Dukes and Floyd making it.
One other addition could be Madness' "Riding On My Bike", the answer song to their own "Driving In My Car". It showed up on the maxi single of "Driving".

"I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things."

Haha Pink Floyd, bloody legends!!!

Hey Robert, this is an excellent top ten list. Queen's song is classic and the only bicycle song I was aware of. You can cross-post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and link back to your site. We are trying to create a directory for top ten lists where people can find your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

Gotta Be Somebody - Nickleback
It may not have the word "bike" in the title but it fits.

What a bunch of lame song choices. These aren't going to make me kick ass over the line at all.
