The Top 10 Comic Book Superhero Playlist
This weekend San Diego hosts the big comic book convention, Comic-Con. And 2009 is the 40th anniversary of the annual event, which attracts throngs of serious comic book fans, many dressed as their favorite comic book characters. I've always had a bit of a dork streak, but this event surpasses my dork-level. I've read my fair share of science fiction and fantasy novels, love computers and have been known to enjoy a game of D&D or Warcraft. But I've never entered the realm of the comic book geek. I think comics are pretty cool and all -- I just didn't grow up reading them, and could care less about big screen versions. Recently at a book store with my 3-year old son I thought I'd check out the comic book section since he love to be read to. Maybe comics would offer the perfect combo of reading and art to inspire him? Well, not yet.
I was surprised by a few things:
1. The artistic styles I saw in today's modern comics blew me away. The artwork was superb, dynamic and expressive.
2. The prices for comics are much higher than I remember. Hopefully, the artists are getting a big cut at these prices.
3. Comics are much more graphic today than they were when I was growing up. I could not find one that was acceptable for a 3-year old, but I can't wait until he's old enough! Any suggestions for a young child?
In honor of this year's Comic-Con I thought I would put together a playlist of songs with song titles that reflect my selections for the top 10 comic superhero characters of all time.
What character/song would you like to see added?

Well, Robert, I never read a comic book...so I can't really suggest anything, nor can I think of any other superhero not mentioned here...
"Marvel Group"-Mother Earth
"(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman"-The Kinks
"Sunshine Superman"-Donovan (which also gives a nod to Green Lantern)
"Underdog"-Butthole Surfers
As for the noble Mighty Mouse, I can't think of a single instance where he was immortalized in a rock song, though I loved the updated version of his theme song for Ralph Bakshi's MIGHTY MOUSE-THE NEW ADVENTURES.
