Songs For Autumn
I think that the analogy of the four seasons being akin to life is a good one. We watch the seasons pass slowly, as we do our lives. In spring we are children, young and carefree, everything is beautiful and blooming for us. In summer we are adults, but still young. We long to stay up late, fall in love and enjoy the heat. In winter we are old and don't move around as much as we once did, but we are wise and much joy comes from sitting by the fire with family and friends. And autumn is that time in our adulthood were we have settled down, but have not yet retired. We have learned to slow down and enjoy everything around us. We understand the beauty of life and no longer take it for granted.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons and many musicians have sung its praises. For this playlist I wanted to select songs that had a main theme of autumn, but I also wanted a list that "felt" like autumn. For me that means meandering, crisp, sparse, colorful and gentle music. I've done my best to eliminate anything harsh from this list and focus on the mellow side. The playlist includes a good deal of low-key jazz along with some world music, instrumental and mellow popular music tracks. Although eclectic in genre they're all connected by a calmness and beauty that you can find at the heart of autumn itself.
