Only 11 songs have the distinct privilege of making it to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993. This is mainly due to 3 female pop singers who dominated the top spot for a combined 27 weeks during the course of the year. Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey ruled the charts in 1993, but do you remember Snow, Silk and SWV? Well, if these artists don't ring a bell, give this playlist a spin and I bet you'll remember the songs when you hear them.

Some music news from 1993:

-Lisa Bonet filed for divorce from Lenny Kravitz

- The British band Oasis was discovered by record executive Alan McGGhee at the nightclub King Tut's in Glasgow

-Prince changes his name to an unpronounceable symbol

-The Velvet Underground break up

- Frank Zappa dies of prostate cancer

-10,000 Maniacs loose their lead singer Natalie Merchant to a solo career

-The Backstreet Boys, Blonde Redhead, Daft Punk, Korn, Low, Modest Mouse, Nada Surf, The Spice Girls, Third Eye Blind and Wu-Tang Clan are formed

- Nirvana releases their last studio album In Utero

Dear God! Judging by this list that was an awful year for music. Thankfully I can say I have never owned any of these songs.

lol There's always some dork on this site like "old_ onion_crotch" commenting on "how bad" music was in some era. And, by judging from his/her name, I can tell why he/she is complaining. lmao He (or she) probably never liked any kind of music passed the '50's. lmao Old buzzard.

I loved the music of 1993. Whatever happened to SWV?

I remember that year because Janet ruled the charts. Her song, "That's the way love goes" was number 1 for 8 weeks. The "Janet" album was her biggest selling album and the fast selling album for a artist. During THAT era, the "Janet" album also sold more albums during it's first week in sales making music history.
