Blu Cantrell Reunites With Dallas Austin On The Set Of 'Drumline'

(1/30/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- R&B singer Blu Cantrell and producer-songwriter Dallas Austin hooked up again when Cantrell shot a segment for the new film, Drumline, for which Austin is serving as music supervisor. The pair first collaborated to create the chart-topping "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)," which has subsequently earned Cantrell and Austin a Grammy nomination in the best R&B song category, and Cantrell an additional nomination in the best female R&B vocal performance category.
Cantrell will play herself in Drumline, which is currently filming in Atlanta under the direction of Charles Stone III (Budweiser "Wassup!" commercials). In the movie, Cantrell sings the national anthem before a packed crowd at the Georgia Dome in scenes preceding the climactic "battle-of-the-bands" sequence in the movie, which is a coming-of-age tale set amid the competitive world of black college marching bands. Drumline's main character Devon Miles (played by Nick Cannon) struggles to compete and find his niche as he attempts to land a spot as a freshmen drummer on his school's drumline.
The cast also includes Orlando Jones, Zoe Saldana, Leonard Roberts, and Gregory Qaiyum.
