The musician underwent tests on Friday (July 2) which revealed that he had a blocked artery, according to a statement released by a band spokesperson. Angioplasty, a procedure in which a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted and inflated in a blocked artery to allow for better blood flow, was performed on Popper on Friday. "The procedure was successful and [Popper] is currently experiencing no chest pains," the statement said.
Popper was admitted to Cedars Sinai on Thursday (July 1) following a doctor's visit (LAUNCH, 7/1). As a result, the band was forced to cancel its shows scheduled for July 3 and 4 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. Prior to the angioplasty, the Blues Traveler singer had been experiencing chest pains over the last few months.
As a result of Popper's condition, all public appearances have been postponed through the end of July. However, Popper's solo album, Zygote, is still on tap for Sept. 7 and a tour of the U.S. and Canada is being scheduled.
