Bob Dylan to release Christmas album for charity
AP, Sep 24, 2009 4:00 pm PDTInternational royalties from Bob Dylan's first Christmas album will be donated to the World Food Program to feed hungry people around the world, the U.N. agency announced Thursday. Dylan had previously announced that U.S. royalties would go to the American organization Feeding America. It is estimated that will help feed 1.4 million U.S. families during the holidays.
"Christmas in the Heart" will be released Oct. 13, Columbia Records has said.
Every 25 cents that goes to the World Food Program can buy a cup of porridge for a school child at a time when hunger threatens the lives of 108 million people worldwide, said Josette Sheeran, the U.N. agency's executive director.
All international royalties in perpetuity will go to the World Food Program, the U.N. group said, except for British royalties, which will go to the relief agency Crisis UK.
The 68-year-old Dylan said in a statement: "That the problem of hunger is ultimately solvable means we must each do what we can to help feed those who are suffering and support efforts to find long-term solutions."
