Geldof: poor must be part of global finance reform

AP, Mar 17, 2009 11:00 am PDT
Activist Bob Geldof is calling for nations to consider the poor in reforms of the global financial system.

The organizer of the 1985 Live Aid concert for Africa says that next month's Group of 20 summit in London has to make sure that developing nations are an integral part of the new financial architecture.

The Irish singer says that the global financial system was inherently unstable.

He said over a St. Patrick's Day pint in an Irish pub in Brussels that if the richest nations do not include the dynamism or creativity of poorer countries — "in whatever new version of globalization we come up with, we are going to fail again."
