Brooks & Dunn Break Records, Regain Stronghold At ACM Awards

(5/23/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Brooks & Dunn upped their award total by three after Wednesday's (May 22) Academy Of Country Music (ACM) Awards, taking home top country video ("Only In America"), top vocal duo, and entertainer of the year honors. In doing so, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn made Academy of Country Music history by winning 16 total awards, breaking the record previously held by Merle Haggard for the most ACM trophies.
Of the three awards, the duo were especially elated to be named entertainer of the year, putting them back on top once again, Brooks tells LAUNCH. "For us, we had just kinda been on this thing and maybe gotten a hair complacent, and with the making of Steers & Stripes we really sucked it up and went back and did everything we did when we first started, and we rode the bus and went and visited all the radio stations and just kinda got reacquainted with the business again. We just made up our minds we weren't ready to ride off into the sunset, and to think that we came back and won this award again after all that time...boy that was really a fun challenge and it worked. Wow! Just a great payoff!"
Brooks & Dunn are currently on tour, bringing the second annual Neon Circus & Wild West Show to fans across the country with opening acts Dwight Yoakam, Gary Allan, Chris Cagle, and Trick Pony.
