Strumming an acoustic guitar, he sang "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You" as the luxury carmaker marked 10 years since its TT sports car hit the road. The TTS will be sold as a four-seat coupe and two-seat roadster convertible.
Audi AG, owned by Germany's Volkswagen AG, also announced 2007 worldwide sales rose 6.5 percent to 964,151. Chairman Rupert Stadler said the automaker expects 2008 sales to top 1 million.
"The growth was driven by China," Stadler told reporters. "Also by Europe. And Western Europe was very strong."
For the U.S. market, Stadler said sales should improve from about 93,000 last year.
"We expect some growth, but light growth," Stadler said.
While sales have been rising, Stadler said a decision on whether to build a plant in the U.S. to produce Audis is likely several years away. For now, he said, the automaker has capacity in Europe.
"We have still a little bit of time," he said.
The TTS features a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that boasts 272 horsepower and a governor-limited top speed of about 155 mph. The engine produces nearly as much power as a 3.2-liter, six-cylinder engine, but with better fuel efficiency.
The TTS is scheduled to be in U.S. dealer showrooms in late November. Pricing will be released later.
In addition to the TTS, Audi showed off its R8 V12 TDI concept a 500 horsepower diesel-powered super-sports car. It also is displaying its new A4 sedan, which goes on sale starting this spring.
The R8 concept is designed to show that diesel engines can be used to produce sports car power. Getting almost 25 miles per gallon, Audi says it has the power to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
