Christina Aguilera, Dancers, Crew Get Viral Infection & Cancel Performances

Yahoo! Music, Oct 27, 2000 6:00 pm PDT
(10/27/00, 6 p.m. ET) - Christina Aguilera, her dancers, and various members of her crew contracted a "serious flu" after the singer wrapped up her U.S. headlining tour with a sold-out concert at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu on Saturday (October 23), reports her record label, RCA. Aguilera and company were unable to leave Honolulu as planned and were forced to cancel scheduled performances on Live With Regis Thursday (October 26), a radio show in Chicago on Friday (October 27), and a Disney Channel/Time Warner event Saturday (October 28) in New York's Times Square. The statement from RCA was issued Friday (October 27) and explains that the Grammy Award-winning singer is currently under the care of a physician. "Dr. Peter Waldstein confirms that Christina is suffering from a viral syndrome associated with exudative tonsillitis. He hopes she will be able to resume her plans by the end of the week, when she is scheduled to perform on the Radio Music Awards on November 4 in Las Vegas, and the upcoming taping of her ABC television special on November 7 and 8 in Los Angeles."

On a more positive note, the ailing singer's track "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" is in its fourth week in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her Spanish language album Mi Reflejo remains at Number One on the Billboard Latin 50 chart.
