Snoop Posts Third 'Hot' Week Atop Singles Chart

Reuters, Dec 16, 2004 6:14 pm PST
Snoop Dogg was too hot to drop from the top of Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart Thursday as his hit tune "Drop It Like It's Hot" featuring Pharrell logged a third week at No. 1.

The cut stems from Snoop's latest album, "R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece" (Doggystyle/Geffen), which has sold about 640,000 copies after four weeks, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Creeping closer to the top of the Hot 100 was Mario's "Let Me Love You," which rose one place to No. 2, a personal best for the R&B artist, whose sophomore album, "Turning Point" (3rd Street/J), debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 Wednesday.

Ciara's "1, 2 Step" featuring Missy Elliott climbed two to No. 3 on the Hot 100, hopping over the former No. 1 duet from Usher and Alicia Keys, "My Boo," which fell two to No. 4. Nelly's "Over and Over" featuring Tim McGraw slipped one to No. 5.

Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz' "Lovers and Friends" featuring Usher and Ludacris continued its upward stride with a one-place move to No. 6 move. It's the second hit for these collaborators, who enjoyed a 12-week stint at No. 1 with Usher's "Yeah!" featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris earlier this year. The ubiquitous Lil Jon also joined the YoungBloodz in a featured appearance on Nivea's "Okay," which debuted at No. 95 this week.

With a 10-7 burst, Destiny's Child's "Soldier" featuring T.I. and Lil Wayne passed the trio's "Lose My Breath," which slid three to No. 9.

Ja Rule's "Wonderful" featuring R. Kelly and Ashanti was No. 8 for the second week, while Kelly Clarkson 's "Breakaway" rounded out the top tier with a 11-10 gain. Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" also soared 17 places to No. 53.

Despite a slide to No. 9 by last week's Billboard 200 chart-topper, "Collision Course" (Warner Bros./Roc-A-Fella), the Jay-Z/Linkin Park set's first single, "Numb/Encore," jumped 16 places to No. 37 on the Hot 100.

50 Cent boasted three singles in the top 30, led by his own "Disco Inferno," which rose 14 places to No. 13. The rapper is also a featured guest artist on the Game's "How We Do It" (32-23) and Eminem 's "Encore" (34-26).

The Hot 100's top debut was "Some Cut" featuring Cutty at No. 70, by Warner Bros. act Trillville. Also debuting this week were Gwen Stefani 's "Rich Girl" featuring Eve at No. 74 and Monchy & Alexandra's "Perdidos" at No. 96.

Blake Shelton earned his third No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks with "Some Beach." The one-position move by the second single from his Warner Bros. Nashville set, "Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill," ended the one-week reign of Tim McGraw's "Back When," which dropped to No. 2.

Chevelle started a second week in the top slot of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks list with "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)," while Green Day notched a third week atop the Modern Rock Tracks tally with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
