Boy George 'Tumbles For Ya'

Yahoo! Music, Dec 16, 1999 3:00 pm PST
(12/15/99, 3 p.m. ET) - Boy George, frontman of pop group Culture Club, was nearly killed earlier this week when a mirrored disco ball came crashing from the ceiling of a British concert hall. George, 38, and the rest of Culture Club were rehearsing on stage when the wire on the 62-pound fixture snapped. On its 20-foot descent, the ball came within inches of landing on the singer's head. He was treated for shock and severe bruising as the ball clipped him on its way down. The ball is one of three used by the group on their current U.K. tour.

The flamboyant singer told Britain's Sun newspaper "It would have been both ironic and glamorous to be finished off by a four-foot glitter ball." George insisted on going ahead with the concert scheduled a few hours later that night.
