(6/13/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Platinum female rapper Da Brat pleaded guilty June 11 (Monday) of misdemeanor reckless conduct for assaulting a woman in an Atlanta nightclub last year, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was originally charged with aggravated assault, but was able to receive the lesser charge in exchange for pleading guilty.
The Fulton County District Attorney's office ordered Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, to pay a $1,000 fine, serve 80 hours of community service, and be on probation for 12 months.
Da Brat, who is featured on the hip-hopera Carmen soundtrack released this week, was accused of pistol-whipping Rezue Robateue March 8, 2000 at the Chili Pepper nightclub in the Buckhead section of Atlanta. Robateue received cuts to her face that required stitches.
A spokesperson from Da Brat's label, Columbia Records, said that she was not aware of the ruling, and could not comment. The Fulton County District Attorney's office was already closed when LAUNCH attempted to contact a spokesperson for comment.
