Dave Clark Five's Smith OK That Band Isn't In Rock Hall Of Fame

Yahoo! Music, Mar 31, 2003 12:00 pm PST
(3/31/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Former Dave Clark Five (DC5) singer Mike Smith wrapped up his current tour with his band, Mike Smith's Rock Engine, on Sunday (March 30) at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. He was honored to perform, even if the DC5 has yet to be inducted into the institution.

The DC5 enjoyed a string of hits in the mid-1960s that included eight top-10 songs such as "Glad All Over," "Bits And Pieces," and "Catch Us If You Can," plus the Number One "Over And Over." Despite their massive popularity from 1964 to 1967, Smith said it doesn't both him that there's still no plaque in the Rock Hall for the band.

"Oh, not at all," Smith said. "I mean, when the powers that be should be in, that the Dave Clark 5 should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, then, you know, I hope it's before I depart from this earth. That's the only wish I have (chuckles)."
