Seventeen-year-old David Archuleta was the first runner-up in the seventh season of American Idol, losing to David Cook by 12 million votes at the May 2008 finale. However, for much of the season the former Star Search winner and child prodigy was considered the competition's frontrunner, particularly after his moving performance of John Lennon's "Imagine." Simon had called season 7's final David-vs.-David showdown a "total knockout" in Archuleta's favor, and many viewers were surprised when he lost. However, he has already had several top 10 songs on iTunes, is going out on the American Idols Live tour in summer '08, and is expected to release an album this year on BMG, just like all second-placers that came before him.
