Earliest Releases To Be Reissued

Yahoo! Music, Jun 3, 2001 10:00 am PDT
(6/3/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- The earliest releases in the career of David Gray will be compiled and reissued in the United Kingdom by Hut Recordings on July 2. Dubbed The EPs 92-94, the 10-song collection of mostly solo acoustic material amasses Gray's first three singles and their respective B-sides, including the original version of the live favorite, "Wisdom."

The complete track listing is: "Birds Without Wings," "L's Song," "The Light," "Shine," "Brick Walls," "The Rice," "Wisdom," "Lovers," "4 a.m.," and "Coming Down."

"Some of the things on here I think are the best representations of that early time 'cause I'm just standing there on my own," says Gray. "There were times later on, working with a full palate, when it all went awry."

As well, Hut Recordings will also re-release Gray's first two albums, 1993's A Century Ends and 1994's Flesh.

New or old, Gray tells LAUNCH that many of his best songs depend on spontaneity to help make them happen. "When you're working instinctively you tap so much deeper into whatever it is that's going on," he says. "You don't edit it with your mind or mess with it. It doesn't always work that way, I mean it can just be a load of crap, basically, but if it comes right then you've got something special. So, I'm sort of in awe of songs that come quickly. They're the best things I've done, I think."

Currently there are no plans for the reissues to be released in the United States.
