Kicks Off U.S. Tour Tonight

Yahoo! Music, Apr 12, 2001 7:00 am PDT
(4/12/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- David Gray kicks off his largest American tour to date in support of his latest album, White Ladder, tonight (April 12) at the Quest in Minneapolis. The London-based singer-songwriter will play 34 dates on the trek, including two-night stands at New York City's Radio Music Hall and Seattle's Moore Theatre.

Gray will showcase songs from White Ladder, including the hit "Babylon," as well as selections from his upcoming acoustic album Lost Songs 95-98, which is due in stores from ATO/RCA on Tuesday (April 17). He tells LAUNCH that regardless of the song selection, American audiences demand that artists deliver the goods. "People are very into their live music here. I think you've got to do it there on the stage and they can say, 'Hey, these guys are for real.' It's like, that's important. I guess it's a big country and, you know, people have been sold so much bulls--t. You like to know something's for real. So I think people like to see you get up there and sort of deal with the rough and the smooth."

Support acts include former Veruca Salt co-founder Nina Gordon (April 12-21), Interscope Records pop duo Fisher (May 8-16), and current pop success Nelly Furtado (May 18-24).
