's 'Lost' Songs Found Again

Yahoo! Music, Jan 8, 2001 5:00 pm PST
(1/8/01, 5 p.m. ET) - David Gray will take advantage of the wave of popularity he's riding from his latest album, White Ladder, with the American release of Lost Songs 95-98, a collection of acoustic songs recorded after the Welsh singer-songwriter's departure from EMI Records in the mid-'90s. The album will arrive from ATO/RCA Records later this year, according to a spokesperson for the artist.

In the interim, Lost Songs will hit the streets in the United Kingdom on February 12.

The move follows the success of Lost Songs in Ireland, where it has already been certified four-times platinum. Success in that country is nothing new to Gray. His soulful, acoustic music has always been embraced there, including White Ladder, which garnered fan support as a self-release long before labels in the U.K. and America took notice.

"There's a natural affinity between the Irish and the acoustic sort of ballad-type thing," Gray says. "I think they love that kind of thing. And there's a slight Van Morrison element to it. They eat that stuff up."

White Ladder, meanwhile, continues to sell well here in the States. The album has been certified gold for sales topping a half-million and has climbed to its highest position, Number 53, on the current Billboard 200 album chart.

Look for White Ladder's "Please Forgive Me" as the follow-up to the hit single "Babylon." The song should arrive at radio in early spring.

Gray will make an appearance January 15 on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
