's 'Lost Songs' Found For April

(3/9/01, 1 p.m. ET) - David Gray's all-acoustic album Lost Songs 95-98 is set to arrive in America from ATO/RCA Records on April 17. Recorded in 1999, the release showcases 11 previously unreleased tracks written by the London singer-songwriter in the middle of the decade after his departure from EMI Records.

Gray tells LAUNCH: "I just said, 'Well, let's just go in the studio and record songs that I've got lying around (and) make a little acoustic record,' because I sort of knew that I was never gonna get the chance again. And it's not, like, after White Ladder I'd be willing to go backwards and clean out the cupboard kind of thing: 'Ooh, look what I found.' It was like creating a document really of some of the things that were lying around which I thought were worthwhile to kind of knit together."

Lost Songs was already issued in Ireland last summer, where it debuted at the top of the album chart, and in February in England, where it arrived at Number Six. The collection was also nominated for best album at last month's Brit Awards.

The complete Lost Songs tracklist includes: "Flame Turns Blue," "Twilight," "Hold On," "As I'm Leaving," "If Your Love Is Real," "Tidal Wave," "Falling Down The Mountainside," "January Rain," "Red Moon," "A Clean Pair Of Eyes," and "Wurlitzer."

Gray kicks of his largest-ever tour of North America at the Quest in Minneapolis on April 12.
