More than six months after the two former combatants wrapped a successful reunion tour at the helm of their faded rock band Van Halen, some new music and more touring could be in the offing.
Guitarist Van Halen told Rolling Stone he had "a lot of fun" on tour, that singer Roth was "a blast," and he has written "tons of music" for what would be the band's first album in more than a decade.
The rock veterans had been at war since Roth quit the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career, but they declared a ceasefire to kick off a 75-date tour in September 2007. Also along for the trek was Eddie's drummer brother, Alex, and his teen-aged son, Wolfgang, substituting for Michael Anthony on bass.
"We are a band -- it wasn't just a one-off tour we did," Van Halen told the magazine, adding that he planned to meet with Roth this summer to play him demos of new songs.
The band released its last album in 1998, "Van Halen III," its first and only recording with singer Gary Cherone, who filled in for Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar. The album bombed, Cherone quickly exited, and the band foundered.
A spokeswoman for Roth declined to comment to Reuters on the article, and Van Halen's publicist/fiancee Janie Liszewski, said she had no additional information.
