Deborah Gibson, Gladys Knight Sign On As 'American Juniors' Judges

Music, Jun 18, 2003 5:00 pm PDT(6/18/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- Singer-actress Deborah Gibson and soul legend Gladys Knight have signed on to be permanent judges on the new Fox talent competition American Juniors. The American Idol spin-off show airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
Gibson found success at 16 with tunes such as "Only In My Dreams" and "Lost In Your Eyes." The Long Island native also appeared in the Broadway companies of Les Miserables, Grease!, Beauty And The Beast, and most recently Cabaret. Gibson's latest solo effort is titled M.Y.O.B.
Grammy-winning R&B legend Gladys Knight was a guest judge during the second season of American Idol. Knight nicknamed singer Ruben Studdard the "velvet teddy bear." He went on to become the show's winner.
First season American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini was the guest judge on the Tuesday (June 17) edition of the program. Guarini also performed on the show.
American Juniors is a competition for 6- to 13-year-olds. The viewing audience votes for their favorites, with five winners to form a singing group at the end of the series.
