(12/03/02, 3 p.m. ET) - Stewart Copeland, the former Police drummer and recent addition to the new Doors lineup, has broken his arm, forcing the Doors to reschedule their debut performance.
Copeland took a spill and fractured his arm while riding on a bicycle path near his home in Los Angeles over the Thanksgiving holiday. The drummer's injury has forced the postponement of the group's kickoff performance from December 8 to January 19 at the Rain In The Desert nightclub at the Palms in Las Vegas.
The all-new Doors lineup, named the 21st Century Doors on the group's official website, features original keyboardist Ray Manzarek and lead guitarist Robby Krieger, who are joined by lead vocalist Ian Astbury (the Cult) and Copeland. The Doors original drummer John Densmore was unable to participate in the reunion due to a severe tinnitus condition.
The group has planned a spring tour for 2003, as well as a series of U.S. and U.K. festival performances. A new album release is also planned for next fall.
