Elton John Mocks World Cup Attempt

Yahoo! Music, Jul 5, 2006 5:00 pm PDT
Elton John has become the latest pop star to mock England's failed attempts to win the World Cup.

Sir Elton, who is a renowned football fan and a good friend of player David Beckham, has reacted angrily to England's exit from the competition.

Speaking after England were beaten by Portugal on Saturday, the pop legend told fans at a concert in Bournemouth that he thought the team were "a disgrace."

He said: "There has not been an outstanding player at this World Cup. I do not even want to talk about that f--king Sven Goran Abba-dabba. As always, the England fans have been fantastic. They have been let down by the team and let down by people earning £125,000 a week. It's a disgrace."
