"The Soul of Rock and Roll," from Sony BMG's Legacy Recordings archival division, boasts 107 tracks spanning four decades, the label said Wednesday.
Alongside such classics as "Blue Bayou," "Only the Lonely" and "Oh, Pretty Woman" are selections from his 1980s comeback, including the title track from his final album, "Mystery Girl" and the Traveling Wilburys tune "Not Alone Anymore."
A generous sprinkling of live tracks ends with another rarity, "It's Over," from Orbison's final concert before his 1988 death at the age of 52.
Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Neil Diamond, Tom Waits, Dolly Parton, Lemmy Kilmister, Tom Petty and Bonnie Raitt are among the artists contributing testimonials to the liner notes.
