(5/22/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Canadian group Emerson Drive was thrilled to receive their first American award for top new vocal duo or group. While the group has won prior Juno awards in Canada, this award proves especially meaningful, according to lead singer Brad Mates.

"This is unreal for us,” Mates said. “We started this band eight years ago in my parents' basement, and to be a part of this country now and to be doing the bulk of our work down here and having people accept it is probably one of the greatest feelings that we've ever experienced."
