Eve Too Young To Remember Song Sampled In 'Gangsta Lovin''

Yahoo! Music, Aug 21, 2002 1:00 pm PDT
(8/21/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Eve, who is 23 years old, happens to be a bit too young to remember the song Alicia Keys interpolates for their joint record "Gangsta Lovin'," currently Number 10 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.

For the "Gangsta Lovin'" chorus, Keys sings a few lines from the Yarbrough & Peoples' song "Don't Stop The Music" that reached Number One in 1980, some 22 years ago.

But Eve said "Don't Stop The Music," which was also sampled on P. Diddy's "Don't Stop What You're Doing" for his 1997 album No Way Out, was before her time. "I really don't remember that," Eve told LAUNCH. "Not at all."

Eve gives the credit to the tracks' producer, Irv Gotti, responsible for hits for Ashanti, Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule, and others. "I really can't go into too much detail on that because I just like the song," Eve added. "Irv actually came in with the song, and the idea of the hook. And I was hooked. And I was feeling it. I was like, 'Why not?'"

Eve's third album, Eve-olution, is due out on Tuesday (August 27), and includes songs with Truth Hurts, the Lox, Snoop Dogg, and Nate Dogg.
