Fat Joe And Big Pun Unleash The Terror Squad

Yahoo! Music, Sep 22, 1999 7:00 pm PDT
(9/22/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Hip-hop heavyweights Fat Joe and Big Pun have joined their Bronx-bred cronies to form the Latino rap collective the Terror Squad. The outfit released its self-titled Atlantic Records debut yesterday (Sept. 21).

The 16-track set has yielded its first single and video, "Whatcha Gonna Do." Although the single is only available commercially on vinyl, the buzz has set off a frenzy among Latino hip-hop fans. The Marcus Nispel-directed video, featuring athletic performances by NBA stars Stephon Marberry and Kenny Anderson, is in active rotation on BET, MTV, and the Box.

To celebrate the release of the album, group members--including Armageddon, Cuban Link, Triple Seis, and Prospect--appeared at retail shops and at a party at Jimmy's Bronx Café last night (Sept. 21) in their hometown borough of the Bronx, N.Y.

Today, the crew will make stops in Brooklyn, before heading off to Pennsylvania on Friday. In the meantime, Terror Squad frontman Fat Joe has signed on for a plum role in the forthcoming Robert DeNiro movie Prison Song, which will also star Mary J. Blige and Q-Tip.

Look for a Terror Squad feature on LAUNCH.com soon. Features on Fat Joe and Mary J. Blige are available now.
