Fear Factory Done After Frontman Quits

Yahoo! Music, Mar 7, 2002 5:00 pm PST
(3/7/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Veteran industrial metal band Fear Factory has called it quits after the departure of its frontman Burton C. Bell, LAUNCH has learned. Band guitarist Dino Cazares told LAUNCH on Tuesday (March 5), "Burton pussed out and quit Fear Factory."

Cazares says that with Bell's departure, he, drummer Raymond Herrera, and Static-X bassist Tony Campos have formed a new group known as Assassino--Spanish for "assassin"--with Campos also handling lead vocals. The group plans to add a second guitarist as a member at a later date. Recording has already started, with Slipknot bassist Paul Grey chipping in on one track.

Cazares and Herrera will also continue to devote time to their side project, Brujeria.

Fear Factory debuted its brand of dark, sci-fi metal with the 1992 Roadrunner Records release, Soul Of A New Machine, and released four albums overall for the label. The Los Angeles group saw its greatest success with its last album, 2001's Digimortal, which debuted at Number 32 on the Billboard 200.

Fear Factory had been working on new material in recent weeks.
