There's A 'Reason' Why Hoobastank Song May Sound Familiar

Hoobastank singer Doug Robb tells LAUNCH that when guitarist Dan Estrin first played him the music for the band's current single, "The Reason," it struck him instantly for two reasons. "The first time Dan gave me the music idea for it," Robb said, "you know, the guitar melody was the vocal melody that I was hearing, like, 'Oh man, you gotta let me sing this part and you've gotta maybe do something else,' and stuff like that. And, you can sing [the Ben E. King R&B classic] 'Stand By Me' to it…It's like the same chord progressions as 'Stand By Me,' you know, almost."

Hoobastank, the Lostprophets, and Ima Robot are winding down the MTV Campus Invasion Tour. Once the trek is completed, Hoobastank will travel to Europe for a series of dates with Evanescence, beginning on May 20 in Sheffield, England.

Hoobastank will also play the Rolling Rock Town Fair on July 31 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
