Irv Gotti Arrested: No-Show In Court

Yahoo! Music, Aug 21, 2003 6:00 pm PDT
(8/21/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Murder Inc. head Irv Gotti was arrested last Friday (August 15) night and charged with possession of ecstasy when stopped backstage at R. Kelly's concert in Oakland, California.

He was found with an ecstasy tablet along with prescription Viagra pills. Gotti was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on bail. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday (August 19), but authorities said he did not show up for his arraignment and prosecutors were unable to get in touch with his attorney.

Oakland police officer Randy Brandwood said he saw Gotti remove something from his pants pocket and put it into a basket before passing through a metal detector. Gotti also wound up dropping a small clear plastic bag containing some pills. He attempted to put the bag back in his pocket before Brandwood stopped him.

Gotti has no previous criminal charges. If found guilty, he will likely enter a drug diversion program.

Meanwhile, federal prosecutors are currently investigating the rap mogul for suspicion of money laundering and fraud involving his record label.
