(11/14/01, 12 p.m. ET) -- The Isley Brothers received an American Music Awards (AMAs) nomination yesterday (November 13) in the favorite R&B/soul band, duo or group category. While the veteran R&B group faces stiff competition from Jagged Edge and pop act Destiny's Child, show producer Dick Clark says he's planning on rooting for the Isleys.
"I hope the Isley Brothers are there. They're nominated, and I've grown up with the Isley Brothers. I don't know if they want to hear that, but that would be a real treat for me," Clark says.
Winners of the annual AMAs are selected by the public via a national sampling of approximately 20,000 people who are sent ballots by the National Family Opinion Inc. firm, under the supervision of Broadcast Research And Consulting Inc. Nominees on the ballots are determined from data supplied by the music-industry trade publication Radio & Records, and the Soundscan Inc. management information system. In total, 21 AMAs will be presented during a three-hour ABC television special starting at 8 p.m. ET on January 9. The ceremony will be telecast from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
