Biopsy for kidney removed from James Levine
AP, Jul 16, 2008 2:00 pm PDTA biopsy will be performed on the kidney that was removed this week from Boston Symphony Orchestra and Metropolitan Orchestra music director James Levine, his brother said Wednesday.
Doctors in New York removed the kidney Tuesday because a cyst was causing pressure and discomfort.
In a statement released Wednesday by the BSO, Tom Levine said doctors had "made it clear that it is common procedure for tests, including a biopsy, to be performed on all vital organs surgically removed due to the development of a cyst."
He said test results will not be known for "some time."
The 65-year-old conductor is to remain hospitalized for several days. His next scheduled performance is Sept. 18 at the Met.
