The group's frontman, Jay Kay, announced the decision during the band's concert Monday (November 11) at the famed Opera House in Sydney. He also asked fans to donate a dollar of their own to the cause.
A spokeswoman for Sony Music Australia told the Melbourne Herald Sun that the 33-year-old singer's passion and genuine love of Australians led him to "jump the gun" in his Bali announcement. Further details on the donation amount have not been revealed.
In addition, Kay said that on Friday (November 15) he would auction one of his trademark Indian-style headdresses, a pair of shoes, and possibly a ticket to see the group at one of its remaining Australian concerts.
He also told fans he intends to take next year off from music.
Jamiroquai plays in Melbourne on November 18 and in Brisbane on November 21.
