Jesus & Mary Chain Writes And Rants About Future And Tour

Yahoo! Music, Oct 5, 1998 8:00 pm PDT
(10/5/98, 6 p.m. PDT) - Ben Lurie, the other guitarist in the Jesus & Mary Chain has been keeping a tour journal on the Sub Pop website, www.subpop.com. Given the chaos that broke out on the band's first U.S. tour in five years (myLAUNCH, 9/14), the latest journal entry makes for interesting reading and provides fans with some insight about the future of the group.

Lurie writes that he believes AWOL Mary Chain member William Reid is hanging out in Seattle and has a solo record that will be released in January the U.K. on Creation Records. Meanwhile Jim Reid and Lurie, along with some of the members of Spiritualized, have recorded demos for a side project and the group hopes to "get on with an album in the next couple months."

The side projects couldn't come at a better time, as Lurie writes, "JAMC really needs to take a break."

Nonetheless, according to Lurie, the Mary Chain is doing just fine without William Reid. "I know there are a bunch of people out there saying it ain't worth seeing the Mary Chain without William and to them I say, 'F*ck off.' We've been playing some of the best gigs we've done all year this past couple of weeks and I'm sick of all you losers with preconceived ideas and closed minds. It's kind of like the way that we still can't do interviews without being asked about Psychocandy, which is a great album, but we've made a lot of great albums. Move on people, we're growing. I wish you could as well."

The Jesus & Mary Chain wrapped up its U.S. tour last night (Oct. 4) at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, R.I.
