Hoobastank, Smile Empty Soul, Jet Swing Onto 'Spider-Man 2'

Hoobastank, Jet, Smile Empty Soul, the Lostprophets, and others are tentatively set for inclusion on the soundtrack of Spider-Man 2, according to MTV.com. Songs by Dashboard Confessional and Train will serve as singles from the album, which is due out on June 22. Smile Empty Soul bassist Ryan Martin spoke to LAUNCH about their contribution to the disc: "That's a song called 'Who I Am' and we were in New York City probably about two months ago, and we were at the Hit Factory and just stayed in the studio for, like, one day and Sean (Danielsen, vocals/guitar) had already done the acoustic guitar track and the vocals, and so we just came in and spent the day tracking, like, drums and live guitar and bass, just jamming it out all together, and came out really, really well."

Yellowcard, the Ataris, and Midtown are also among the artists to be featured on the Spider-Man 2 album.

The 2002 soundtrack to the first Spider-Man sold over a million copies and yielded two hit singles: "Bother" by Stone Sour, and "Hero," sung by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Saliva's Josey Scott.

Spider-Man 2, starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, and Alfred Molina as new villain Doctor Octopus, arrives in theatres on June 30.

Smile Empty Soul also have a song called "Fighting Myself" on the soundtrack of another Marvel Comics superhero film, The Punisher.

The band will launch a headlining tour of the U.S. on June 4, after finishing the Sno-Core Tour this month. Dates with Seether later in the summer are also in the works.
