The Melbourne group scooped six ARIA awards from seven nominations.
"I'd like to thank God but I can't because rock 'n' roll is the devil's music," joked guitarist Cameron Muncey, accepting one of a number of awards including best group, best album and best single for "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?," the hit track used for an iPod advertisement in the United States and for which Jet previously won an MTV award for best rock video.
The band performed its hit in front of a 2,000-strong music industry audience and 6,000 fans. Broadcast live on Network Ten, the 18th Annual ARIA Awards was the second most-watched show for under 40s Sunday night (behind "Australian Idol") with 1.52 million viewers out of a population of about 20 million.
California-born, Australia based blues and roots singer John Butler was named best male artist, while promising 21-year-old Missy Higgins took home best pop release for her single "Scar."
Delta Goodrem , who went home with seven awards in 2003, lost her best female artist crown to country pop singer Kasey Chambers. Nevertheless Goodrem held onto the prize for the highest-selling album for her debut "Innocent Eyes." Making a rare public appearance since being diagnosed with lymphatic cancer, Goodrem performed her new single "Out Of The Blue."
Former "Australian Idol" winner Guy Sebastian took the title of highest-selling single for his debut track "Angels Brought Me Here."
