And Jewel To Perform At Summer Showcase

Yahoo! Music, Jul 11, 2001 7:00 am PDT
(7/11/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Atlantic Records recording artist Willa Ford will appear as a spokesperson and also perform for the Pantene Pro-Voice Summer Showcase in New York's Central Park, which begins at 8 p.m. ET on July 19. Ford's labelmate Jewel will also give an acoustic performance at the competition.

At the event, five female finalists--selected from more than 1,000 entrants--will showcase their singing talents for a panel of celebrity judges that includes comedian Sandra Bernhard, singer-songwriter Tracy Bonham, actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler (The Sopranos), actress Kathy Najimy, and performance artist Laurie Anderson. The grand-prize winner selected by the judges will score a demo deal with Atlantic Records. The concert event will be taped for future broadcast on MuchMusic and on Comcast Cable television.

Ford's debut album, Willa Was Here, comes out next Tuesday (July 17), and Jewel recently spent some time in Nashville recording songs for her own next album. Jewel explained to LAUNCH what the experience of recording in Nashville was like. "I've really enjoyed it here," she said. "I've really liked recording here a lot. The people are really friendly. There's not a lot of attitude. I can get my work done. There's not always people peering in and comparing hairdos, all those kinds of things."
