Walsh, who recorded the rock anthems "Funk #49," "Rocky Mountain Way" and "Life's Been Good" in the 1970s, will plays some dates on Chesney's "Flip Flop Summer Tour."
"If you've ever listened to rock radio, you KNOW Joe Walsh," Chesney said in a statement this week. "Nobody's lived the life quite like him, and absolutely nobody plays guitar like he does, either. I think it's gonna take it up a bunch getting him out here with us."
Walsh, 59, was already an established solo artist when he was invited to join the Eagles for their landmark 1976 "Hotel California" album. He's credited with punching up their country-tinged sound.
Walsh joins fellow guests Sugarland and Pat Green on the Chesney tour. He was scheduled to perform at the kickoff Thursday in Omaha, Neb., and is expected to appear at some later dates.
The tour runs at least through Sept. 8 and includes stops in Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Baltimore, Detroit, New York and Boston.
Last year, Chesney's "The Road & The Radio Tour" played to 1.3 million fans, making it one of the most successful of 2006.
The singer's many country hits include "When the Sun Goes Down," "Anything But Mine," "Summertime" and his latest, "Beer in Mexico."
