The two-disc set includes new liner notes by the artist's son, Ravi Coltrane, and Ashley Kahn, and includes many rare photographs. The set coincides with the release of the book A Love Supreme: The Story Of John Coltrane's Signature Album by Kahn (Viking Press.)
Disc One contains a newly remastered version of the original recording taken from master tapes discovered at EMI's London vaults. The second disc records a live 1965 performance of A Love Supreme at the Festival Mondial due Jazz Antibes in France. The quartet includes McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on bass, and Jimmy Garrison on drums. Also on Disc Two are many alternate takes of sections of the suite, including a long-rumored sextet version of the introductory movement.
