"Hannah Montana" album has rival for No. 1 spot

Reuters, Mar 26, 2009 3:00 pm PDT
Both the "Hannah Montana: The Movie" soundtrack and the "Now 30" compilation are vying for the top slot on next week's U.S. pop album chart.

Based on preliminary estimates of their first-day sales on Tuesday, each is on track to sell more than 120,000 copies during the six days ended March 29, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Final data will be issued next Wednesday.

The current Billboard 200 champ is Kelly Clarkson, who logged a second week at the top after selling 90,000 copies of "Wanted."

Other albums aiming for a top-10 bow next week include Keri Hilson's debut album "In a Perfect World," Papa Roach's "Metamorphosis," Jim Jones' "Pray IV Reign" and Martina McBride's "Shine."

Over on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart, the lavish reissue of Pearl Jam's 1991 debut "Ten" could shift more than 50,000, easily placing it at No. 1.
