Not one to sit around eating bonbons all day, Kevin Federline has been cranking out new tunes in his home studio and is planning to give the music biz another try, sources tell E! Online.
But the "PopoZão" purveyor, whose debut album, Playing with Fire, sold barely 20,000 copies, is supposedly an ex-aspiring rapper now.
"Kevin has been actively producing, nurturing new artists and doing it all from his home studio, so he can be there for his kids whenever they need him," said a source close to Federline. "He loves the music business and is committed to making it a career for himself, even if it's not as a singer.
"He knows no one will ever take him seriously as a performer, so he's working behind the scenes as a producer."
That K-Fed is looking more levelheaded every day.
The erstwhile Mr. Britney Spears was awarded sole legal and physical custody of sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, last week during an emergency hearing. The hearing was called after his former missus ended up in a three-hour confrontation Thursday night with police and paramedics when she refused to let Federline's bodyguard pick up the kids at the prearranged time.
Spears was stripped of her visitation privileges Friday and will not be able to see her children until April, if the court order isn't modified before then, a spokesman for Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan confirmed to E! News.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued an emergency order of protection, good for five business days, following last Thursday's standoff, but as of today Kaplan had not yet determined whether it needed to be replaced with a different type of order.
In the meantime, the kids are "safe and in a really safe, good environment," Kaplan said.
Another custody hearing is scheduled for Monday.
In the meantime, Federline hasn't exactly been lying low—it just seems that way, when compared to the mother of (two of) his children.
The 29-year-old former backup dancer was in Las Vegas for New Year's, partying alongside Paris Hilton at the nightclubs LAX and Pure.
But Federline goes national next week. He has reprised his role as cocky "no means yes" frontman Jason on the CW's One Tree Hill, which kicked off its fifth season Tuesday. The homegrown rock star makes his triumphant return Jan. 15.
