M.C. Lyte Is Back With 'Da Underground Heat'

Yahoo! Music, May 7, 2003 5:00 pm PDT
(5/7/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- M.C. Lyte returns with a new music project, Da Underground Heat, Vol. 1, her first in five years. It comes out on Tuesday (May 6).

The set was produced by Maad Phunk! and is hosted by comedian/actor Jamie Foxx, who allowed M.C. Lyte to use his home recording studio.

The rapper explained that the album was titled Da Underground Heat because it was initially slated to be an underground release for her fans. "Because it was totally underground when we did it," Lyte said. "We had absolutely no intentions of getting a distribution deal for it. It was kinda like we're doing it just for the fans."

Da Underground Heat, Vol. 1 includes phone messages from several of M.C. Lyte's friends such as Treach, Biz Markie, and Janet Jackson, offering words of encouragement.
